A grand staircase is the first thing a house says. Wide, processional, built for the moment of arrival — it sets the terms for everything above and behind it. Our Grand collection is made for foyers that can carry that weight: sweeping runs in Calacatta marble and white oak, balustrades forged in our own studio from solid brass and wrought iron. We are a small atelier in Toronto, and we accept a limited number of commissions at a time so that one team designs, forges, and installs every stair we make. Solid stone, solid timber, solid metal — nothing else enters the shop. The work begins with a complimentary in-home consultation and ends, six to ten weeks later, with a staircase that belongs to the house as if it had always been there.
Design & Engineering
Width is the discipline of a grand stair. Every added foot of tread multiplies the loads the structure must carry and the precision the geometry must hold — a rise that drifts even slightly reads across the full width of the flight. The set-out starts on paper — hand drawings, then a 3D model refined with you, changes free until approval — because a processional stair is drawn as one continuous line: flights, landings, and returns resolved so the curve reads unbroken from the front door to the overlook above. Stone treads demand a substructure engineered before a single slab is cut, and balustrades are forged in-house so the ironwork follows the geometry rather than approximating it. Installation, when it comes, is complete in three to seven days.
Materials
The Grand collection draws on four materials with the weight to match its scale. Treads and landings in Calacatta, quarried in Carrara — a bright white ground crossed by grey and gold veining, each slab individually selected and book-matched where possible. Rift-cut white oak is the quieter alternative: straight, even grain and a pale honey tone that finishes light or dark with equal composure. For the balustrade, solid brass hand-forged from rod and plate — a living metal that deepens to a warm patina unless lacquered, offered polished, brushed, or antiqued — or wrought iron, shaped in our own forge to the exact line of the stair. Nothing in the collection is veneer, laminate, or composite; the material you see is the material throughout.

These stairs are commissioned for houses built around arrival — a double-height foyer in the city, a new build in Oakville or Vaughan with an entrance hall to carry one. In daily life a grand stair is less about occasion than orientation: it organizes the sightlines of the main floor, draws light down from the storeys above, and gives the house a centre. Stone underfoot has a sound of its own — unhurried, certain. Agents will tell you what a foyer like this does for resale; owners tend to talk about coming home. Commissions begin at $10,000, we are fully insured and WSIB covered, and every stair carries a one-year workmanship warranty, from Mississauga to Markham and across the GTA.
