Some homes ask for a staircase that does not yet exist. The Bespoke collection is our answer: one of one, designed from the ground up for a single house and never repeated. A bespoke custom staircase begins with nothing but your architecture — the fall of light in the stairwell, the ceiling height, the way you move between floors — and ends with a structure drawn, forged, and installed by the same Toronto studio. Few projects run through the studio at once, which keeps every decision in the hands of the people who will build it. There is no catalogue behind this page. There is a complimentary in-home consultation, a pencil, and whatever your home requires.

A one-off staircase carries no precedent to lean on. Geometry that exists nowhere else — a cantilever meeting a curve, a landing that turns where no standard stringer would allow — must be resolved from first principles: load paths traced, connections engineered, tolerances held from drawing to steel. The work starts at the drawing board: hand sketches, then a full 3D model of the design in your space, with changes free until you approve it. Because forging happens in-house, the model is not a suggestion handed to a subcontractor but an instruction to the same hands that drew it. Where structural glass is involved, every panel carries its own calculations. The discipline is invisible in the finished stair. That is the point.

The Bespoke collection draws on four materials, combined however the design demands. Walnut treads come from quarter-sawn North American stock, cut for stability, ageing to a warm amber under oil as their ray-fleck figure catches the light. Brass is worked by hand from solid rod and plate, a living material that deepens in patina unless lacquered — polished, brushed, or antiqued to order. Structural glass is low-iron and optically clear, tempered, laminated, and sized to its span between 15 and 19 millimetres, each panel edge-polished with its structure proven by calculation. The Calacatta comes out of the Carrara quarries, a bright white ground veined in grey and gold, slabs chosen by eye and book-matched where the design allows. Nothing here is veneer, laminate, or composite.

Bespoke commissions tend to come from owners who have already looked at everything else. Often the house is unusual — a double-height hall, a tight geometry no standard form will fit, an architect's drawing that asks for something a catalogue cannot give. The finished stair becomes the quiet organizing line of the home: it frames sightlines between floors, borrows and returns daylight, and moves without creak or rattle because it was engineered for its exact position. Appraisers and buyers read a one-off stair the way they read original millwork — as fabric, not fixture.
